As of July 18, 2008, New York State requires all laborers, workers, and mechanics to be certified in this training class. The 10-hour program is intended to provide various training on construction safety and health to entry-level workers. Each class is specifically geared towards your type of business. This is an introduction to OSHA.
The 30-hour program is intended to provide a variety of training to people with some safety responsibility. Each class is specifically geared towards your type of business. Topics typically include Occupational Health and Environmental Controls (emphasis on Hazard Communication), Health Hazards in Construction, Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment, Fire Protection and Prevention, Materials Handling, Storage, Tools – Hand and Power, Welding and Cutting, Scaffolds, etc.
All employees working on a hazardous waste site (such as but not limited to equipment operators, general laborers, and others) exposed to hazardous substances, health hazards, or safety hazards need to receive training meeting the requirements of OSHA regulations. This training must be performed before they are permitted to engage in hazardous waste operations that could expose them to hazardous substances, safety, or health hazards. They will need to receive annual review training thereafter (8-Hour Hazardous Waste Worker Refresher). Topics will include personnel typically responsible for site safety and health, typical hazards present on the site, use of personal protective equipment, work practices by which the employee can minimize risks from hazards, safe use of engineering controls and equipment on the site, medical surveillance requirements including recognition of symptoms and signs which might indicate overexposure to hazards.
Under 29CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operator and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) regulations, training requirements are divided into three sections. One is for “site workers,” one is for TSDFs, and the other is for “emergency responders.” Employees who would be responsible for stopping an accidental release would need to be trained at the technician level. OSHA states in 1910.120 (q)(6)(iii) Technicians respond to stop the release and shall have received at least 24 hours of training equal to the first responder operations level.
In order to keep abreast of ever-changing regulations and technology, HAZWOPER trainees are required to receive annual refresher training. The Refresher course is also a forum to critique any incidents which have occurred in the past year. The course provides workers with updated information designed to maintain professional competency and provides a general review of fundamental safety topics.
Only trained and authorized employees may operate a forklift—even if you’re an experienced operator, you must complete a training evaluation before operating a forklift. Each person will receive a certificate, along with a wallet card stating what they were trained on. Forklifts can do many useful jobs, but they also can be very dangerous—they cause thousands of serious accidents and injuries each year. Potential forklift hazards include: Tipping over, Falling off docks and ramps, Colliding with persons, objects, or other vehicles, Fires or explosions from improper maintenance, fueling, or re-charging. All classes comply with the OSHA regulations and the ANSI Standards. Each person will receive a certificate, along with a wallet card.
The goal of the Workplace Safety and Loss Prevention Incentive Program (WSLPIP) is to help reduce the number
and severity of injuries to employees covered by the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board. Under this program,

One of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) ‘s major goals is to regulate industries to promote safe work practices to minimize employee illnesses and injuries. OSHA has issued the Hazard Communication Standard, codified as 29CFR 1910.1200. The purpose of the Hazard Communication Standard is to establish uniform workplace requirements for the communication of information regarding hazards and hazardous chemicals to all potentially exposed employees.
A permit-required confined space is defined as a space large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter and perform assigned work, has limited or restricted means for entry or exit (for example, tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, and pits are spaces that may have limited means of entry) and is not designed for continuous employee occupancy. OSHA regulations state that the employer must provide training so that all employees whose work involves entering a confined space must acquire the understanding, knowledge, and skills necessary to safely perform the duties assigned within a confined space. Training will include an introduction to confined spaces and the OSHA Standard (29CFR 1910.146), evaluation of confined spaces, non permit vs. permit confined spaces, program requirements, entry permits, training requirements, atmospheric monitoring, lockout tagout procedures, ventilation, personal protection equipment, and rescue requirements.
Asbestos is well recognized as a health hazard and is highly regulated. Primarily employees in construction and general industry face significant asbestos exposure on the job, particularly during the removal of asbestos during renovation or demolition. Asbestos is a respiratory hazard and respiratory/gastrointestinal carcinogen. Asbestos exposure occurs when respirable fibers are released into the air and then inhaled. Since exposure occurs when asbestos is inhaled, the best way to prevent exposure is to prevent asbestos fibers from becoming airborne. The seminar will cover asbestos-containing materials, how to respond to asbestos emergencies, recognize asbestos hazards, and how to prevent exposure to themselves and building occupants. The class satisfies the AHERA and OSHA Class IV requirements for training employees who can come into contact with but do not disturb asbestos-containing materials.
Of the overexposures in industry, lead is one of the most common and is a leading cause of workplace illness. In general populations, lead may be present in hazardous concentrations in food, water, and air. Sources include paint, urban dust, and folk remedies. It is also a major potential public health risk. Lead poisoning is the leading environmentally induced illness in children. At greatest risk are children under the age of six because they are undergoing rapid neurological and physical development. The seminar will cover the specific nature of the operations which could result in exposure to lead, including information concerning the adverse health effects associated with excessive exposure to lead (with particular attention to the adverse reproductive effects on both males and females). We will also cover the purpose, proper selection, fitting, use, and limitations of respirators, the purpose, and description of a medical surveillance program, the medical removal protection program, and finally, the engineering controls and proper work practices when dealing with lead surfaces.
Poor indoor air quality is one of the most important health issues we face today. Molds and fungi are found in virtually every environment and can be detected, both indoors and outdoors, year-round. The number of species of existing molds and fungi is estimated from tens of thousands to three hundred thousand or more. Molds and fungi produce and release millions of spores small enough to be air-, water-, or insect-borne. They can also produce toxic agents known as mycotoxins. Spores and mycotoxins can negatively affect human health, including allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory problems. The seminar will cover the health effects of mold exposure, people at the greatest risk of health effects, how to recognize mold, prevent mold growth, and general mold cleanup tips.
All employees who could be “reasonably anticipated” due to performing their job duties to face contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials are covered under this standard. Employees must be provided with bloodborne pathogen training at the time of initial assignment to a job with occupational exposure and at least annually thereafter. This program consists of a copy of the standard, modes of transmission, hazard recognition, engineering controls, work practices, PPE, and a live question and answer session.
